Urea is a white crystalline compound composed of 46% nitrogen, making it the highest nitrogen-content solid fertilizer available. It is non-flammable, water-soluble, and compatible with a wide variety of other fertilizers and micronutrients. Urea plays a critical role in protein synthesis in plants and is especially important during the vegetative growth phase.

Application & Agronomic Value

Urea is suitable for a wide variety of crops including cereals, fruits, vegetables, rice, corn, and oilseeds. It can be applied as a basal fertilizer, top dressing, or used in fertigation systems.

However, due to urease enzyme activity, nitrogen losses through volatilization (as ammonia gas) can occur, especially in warm, moist, alkaline soils. To maximize efficiency and crop uptake:

• Incorporate into the soi
• Apply before rainfall or irrigation
• Use urease inhibitors when necessary
